FAQ
What areas of Seattle do you service?
My general service range is in North Seattle, mainly the Ballard/Greenwood/Phinney Ridge/Greenlake/Fremont areas, but I am in the Ravenna/Wedgwood area for morning park runs at Magnuson Park. I do not walk in Northgate, Queen Anne, or Capitol Hill.
What experience do you have working with dogs?
I have over 8,000 hours of handling experience from the dog daycare I worked at for 5+ years, as well as the nutrition training I’ve gotten from my 5+ years in pet supply retail. I’ve attended several dog body language and behavior classes over the years, as well as pet CPR and first aid. I started Mutt Strutz in 2015, and am always learning and growing!
What sort of equipment are you comfortable working with?
I can properly fit and work with harnesses, Gentle Leaders, and Halti head collars. Because I am trained in positive reinforcement-based handling practices, I personally choose not to use choke chains, shock collars, or prong collars with any of the dogs I work with, and do not believe in dominance theory-based training techniques such as alpha rolling. I do not use squirt bottles to discourage unwanted behaviors, either.
If you don’t have a harness, I am happy to provide one for your dog’s walks with me. If you would rather have your dog walked with a prong collar or choke chain, I can refer you to another walker who is willing to use those tools.
Do you have any breed or size restrictions?
I am happy to work with any and all breeds! Pit bulls are wonderful dogs--so are boxers, mastiffs, chows, and shepherds. I am also comfortable walking Great Danes and other giant breed dogs.
Are you comfortable working with reactive dogs?
I have lots of experience with reactive dogs! Many of my clients over the years have been leash reactive or stranger afraid, and have required special handling skills to keep everyone safe and happy. Feel free to reach out about your dog's specific behaviors and needs so we can decide whether I’m the right walker/sitter for you. Please be honest and upfront with me so everyone is set up for success!!
What does your business insurance cover?
My insurance--which is through Pet Sitters Associates--protects me and my clients in several ways. For example, if your dog steps on a piece of glass while in my care, the vet bills would be covered at no cost to you! Or, if I'm house sitting for you and I spill grape juice on your nice white couch, the cost to clean or replace the couch would be covered as well. Feel free to ask me for further details on my insurance if you're curious.
Who designed your website?
My very good friend and skilled website designer/developer Zak Greene! I highly recommend him--you can find his studio's website and portfolio at shed.nyc.
Who designed your logo and website art?
The wonderful Diana of Things By Diana! She's such a joy to work with, and her artistic skills certainly speak for themselves.
